Solution

Metallic oxides:-

  • These oxides are basically the crystalline solids that will contain a metal cation as well as an oxide anion.
  • They will react with the water for the formation of the bases or with the acids for the formation of the salts.
  • These metal oxides will produce Hydroxide ions (OH-) ions in the aqueous solution and so are known as basic oxides.
  • Sodium oxide (Na2O) is a strong and basic oxide.
  • It is basic in nature because of the presence of the Oxide ion O2- which is having a very high tendency to form the combination with the Hydrogen ions.
  • Sodium oxide is also a white crystalline solid.

Hence, Sodium oxide (Na2O) is an example of metallic oxide.
