1. When sodium reacts with oxygen, sodium oxide is formed as per the following reaction:
4Na + O22Na2O
2. Sodium oxide dissolves in water to form sodium hydroxide:
Na2O + H2O 2NaOH
3. NaOH when reacts with HCl forms NaCl and H2O:
NaOH + HCl NaCl +H2O
