(i) Pesticides- These are synthetic toxic chemicals with ecological repercussions.​ Most of them are water insoluble ​
and non-biodegradable.​

(ii) Herbicides- Herbicides such as sodium chlorate ​
(NaClO3), sodium arsenite (Na3AsO3) etc. are used to kill weeds. Due to toxic effect ​on mammals, their usage ​
has been restricted.

(iii) Insecticides​- Used to control insects, thereby curbing ​
diseases & protecting crops. They include ​chlorinated hydrocarbons, DDT, BHC etc. Due to adverse​ effects, use of DDT has been banned in india.
