Solar energy is expected to play an important role in India as the other traditional sources of power like thermal or hydro electrical energy are not able to sufficiently cater to the growing demands of energy. Hydro electricity cannot cater to areas that do not have perennial rivers, and thermal energy makes large demands on fossil fuels.
Solar energy on the other hand is hassle-free, does not require elaborate infrastructure, is not polluting, and is comparatively much cheaper than other sources of energy.
