Question

Solid are generally very heavy while gases are light. Explain

Open in App
Solution

Solids are generally very heavy because:
1. Solids are rigid form of matter.
2. Solids particles have more intermolecular force .
2. Solid particles are closely packed .
3. Due to this there are more number of particles present per unit area which makes the density of solids more and thus they are heavy.
Whereas,
1.Gases are fluid form of matter.
2. Particles of gases have very less intermolecular space and force of attraction between them is very less.
3. Number of particles per unit area is less , so less density.
Thus, gases are light compared to solids.
