Question

Solids have definite shape and _________ volume.(definite/indefinite)

Open in App
Solution

  • The particles of solids are very closely packed with very less intermolecular spaces between them.
  • They cannot be compressed. So they have a rigid structure with definite shape and volume.
  • Liquids also have a definite volume, though no definite shape.
  • But the particles of gases are so loosely packed and the intermolecular space is so large that they can be highly compressed and have no definite volume.

Hence, solids have a definite shape and definite volume.
