Solve 2x-y=5 and 3x+2y=11 by substitution.
Substitution method:
The given two equations are
2x–y=5…..(I)3x+2y=11….(II)
Multiplying (I) with 2 we get
4x–2y=10….(III)
Adding (II) with (III)
7x=21x=3
Putting the value ofx in (I) we get
2×3−y=5⇒6−y=5⇒y=1
Hence, x=3 and y=1is the correct answer.
Solve the following pair of linear equations by the elimination method and the substitution method :
(i) x+y=5 and 2x−3y=4 (ii) 3x+4y=10 and 2x−2y=2(iii) 3x−5y−4=0 and 9x=2y+7(iv) x2+2y3=−1 and x−y3=3
