Solve
3x + 4y = 5
x + 5y = 9
(-1,2)
Given equation:
3x + 4y = 5............(i)
x + 5y = 9............(ii)
From (ii) we get x = 9 - 5y...............(iii)
Substituting (iii) in (i) we get
3x + 4y = 5
3(9 - 5y) + 4y = 5
27 - 15y + 4y = 5
27 - 11y = 5
-11y = -22
⇒ y = 2
Substituting y in (ii) we get
x + 5y = 9
x + 5(2) = 9
x + 10 = 9
⇒ x = -1
