Given, $3 y + 4 = 5 y - 4$

$⟹$ $4 + 4 = 5 y - 3 y$ ...[Transposing $x$ terms to one side]

$⟹$ $8 = 2 y$ ...[On simplifying]

$⟹$ $y = \frac{8}{2}$ ...[Dividing $2$ on both sides]

$⟹$ $y = 4$ .
