given, $4 x^{2} - 17 x - 15 = 0$

$\Rightarrow 4 x^{2} - 20 x + 3 x - 15 = 0$

$\Rightarrow 4 x (x - 5) + 3 (x - 5) = 0$

$\Rightarrow (x - 5) (4 x + 3) = 0$

$\Rightarrow x = 5, 4 x = - 3$

$∴ x = 5, \frac{- 3}{4}$
