Since the matrices are equal, the corresponding elements are equal.
Comparing the corresponding elements, we get y = 6 - 2x and 3x = 31 + 4y.
Using y = 6 - 2x in the other equation, we get 3x = 31 + 4 (6 - 2x)
3x = 31 + 24 - 8x
x=5 and hence y=62(5)=4.
Thus, x=5 and y=4
