Solve
9. How many methane molecules and how many hydrogen and carbon atoms are there in 25 g of methane (CH4) ?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

No. of moles of Methane(CH4) = Mass/Molar mass = 25 g /16 g/mol = 1.5625 moles

No. of molecules in 1 mole =6.023 x 1023
No. of molecules in 1.5625 moles = 1.5625 x 6.023 x 1023 = 9.4109 x 1023 molecule of Methane (CH4)

No. of H atoms in 1 molecule = 4
No. of H atoms in 9.4109 x 1023 molecules = 4 x 9.4109 x 1023 = 3.7643 x 1024 atoms of H

No. of C atoms in one molecule = 1 atom
No. of atoms in 9.4109 x 1023 molecule of Methane = 9.4109 x 1023 atoms
