$2 x - \frac{17}{2} - (x - x - \frac{1}{3}) = 12$
$2 x - \frac{17}{2} + \frac{1}{3} = 12 \Rightarrow 2 x = \frac{17}{2} - \frac{1}{3} + 12$
$2 x = \frac{51 - 2 + 72}{6}$
$2 x = \frac{121}{6}$
$x = \frac{121}{12}$
Hence, the value of $x$ is $\frac{121}{12}$ .
