$⟹$ $x = \frac{18}{3}$ ...[Dividing both sides by $3$ ]
$⟹$ $x = 6$ .

Verification:
$L H S = 2 x + 5 = 2 (6) + 5 = 17$ ,
$R H S = 23 - x = 23 - 6 = 17$ .
