Question

Solve for x and y:

4x+6y=3xy,8x+9y=5xy (x0,y0).

Open in App
Solution

The given equations are

4x+6y=3xy---- (A)

8x+9y=5xy (x0,y0) -----(B)

To eliminate coefficients of x from both (A) and (B)

Multiply equation (A) by 2

2x(4x+6y=3xy)

8x+12y=6xy .............. (c)

Also 8x+9y=5xy..................(B)

(C) -(B) we have

3y=xy

3=x

Putting the value of x in (B) which is

8x+9y=5xy we have

24+9y=5(3)y

24=15y9y

24=6y

y=4

x=3
