$3 x^{2} - 5 x + 26 + (- 5 x^{2} - 8 x + 1)$ $= 3 x^{2} - 5 x + 26 - 5 x^{2} - 8 x + 1$
$= - 2 x^{2} - 13 x + 27$
Subtracting $4 x^{2} + 7 x + 1$ from the obtained expression
$\Rightarrow - 2 x^{2} - 13 x + 27 - 4 x^{2} - 7 x - 1$
$\Rightarrow - 6 x^{2} - 20 x + 26$
