$(x + 5) (x - 5) = 24$

$\Rightarrow x^{2} - 5^{2} = 24 {∵ (a + b) (a - b) = a^{2} - b^{2}}$

$\Rightarrow x^{2} = 24 + 25$

$\Rightarrow x^{2} = 49$

$\Rightarrow x = \pm 7$
