$7 - 12 x - 4 x^{2} = 0$

$\Rightarrow 4 x^{2} + 12 x - 7 = 0$

$\Rightarrow 4 x^{2} + 14 x - 2 x - 7 = 0$

$\Rightarrow 2 x (2 x + 7) - 7 (2 x + 7) = 0$

$\Rightarrow (2 x - 1) (2 x + 7) = 0$

$∴ x = \frac{1}{2}, \frac{- 7}{2}$ .
