Solution

Given the two equations $7 x + 2 y = 19$ ......(1) $x - y = 4$ ....(2).

Now, (1) $+ 2 \times$ (2) gives

$7 x + 2 y + 2 x - 2 y = 19 + 8$

$9 x = 27$ or, $x = 3$ .

Putting $x = 3$ in (2) we get, $y = 3 - 4 = - 1$ .
