$\frac{4 x - (x + 7)}{3 x - (5 x - 9)} = \frac{2}{3}$

$\frac{3 x - 7}{- 2 x + 9} = \frac{2}{3}$

$3 (3 x - 7) = 2 (- 2 x + 9)$

$9 x - 21 = - 4 x + 18$

$9 x + 4 x = 21 + 18$

$13 x = 39$

$x = \frac{39}{13} \Rightarrow x = 3$
