$4 x^{2} + x - 5 = 0$
Applying quadratic formula,
$x = \frac{- b \pm \sqrt{b^{2} - 4 a c}}{2 a}$
$a = 4, b = 1, c = - 5$

$x = \frac{- 1 \pm \sqrt{1 - 4 (4) (- 5)}}{2 \times 4}$
$x = \frac{- 1 \pm \sqrt{81}}{8}$
$x = \frac{- 1 \pm 9}{8}$
