Question

Solve the equations:

(12) 5 (8 – y) = 3y + 13

Open in App
Solution

5 (8 – y) = 3y + 13
40 – 5y = 3y + 13
Subtracting 3y from both sides, we obtain:
40 – 5y – 3y = 3y + 13 – 3y
40 – 8y = 13
Subtracting 40 from both sides, we obtain:
40 – 8y – 40 = 13 – 40
– 8y = –27
Dividing both sides by – 8, we obtain:
-8y-8=-27-8y=278
