Solve the following
$2 x - 3 y = 9; 2 x + y = 13$

Solution

$2 x - 3 y = 9$
$2 x + y = 13$

subtracting , we get
$y + 3 y = 10 - 9$
$4 y = 4$
$\Rightarrow y = 1$

$2 x - 3 y = 9$
$2 x = 9 + 3 = 12$
$x = 6$

$∴ x = 6, y = 1$
