Solve the following:
$3 x - 5 = 16$

$3 x - 5 = 16$

$3 x - 5 + 5 = 16 + 5$

$\Rightarrow 3 x = 21$

$\Rightarrow x = \frac{21}{3} = 7$

$∴ x = 7$ .
