Given equation
$x^{2} - 8 x - 16 = 0$
$\Rightarrow x^{2} - 4 x - 4 x + 16 = 0$
$\Rightarrow x (x - 4) - 4 (x - 4) = 0$
$\Rightarrow (x - 4) (x - 4) = 0$
when $x - 4 = 0$ then $x = 4$
or $x - 4 = 0$ then $x = 4$
Hence, $x = 4, 4$ are required roots of given equation.
