$\frac{x + 2}{9} = \frac{x + 4}{11} \Rightarrow 11 (x + 2) = 9 (x + 4) by cross multiplying \Rightarrow 11 x + 22 = 9 x + 36 \Rightarrow 11 x - 9 x = 36 - 22 \Rightarrow 2 x = 14 \Rightarrow x = \frac{14}{2} \Rightarrow x = 7$
