Solution

$2 x^{2} - x - 3 = 0$
$2 x^{2} + 2 x - 3 x - 3 = 0$ by arranging the factors
$2 x (x + 1) - 3 (x + 1) = 0$ by taking common
$(2 x - 3) (x + 1) = 0$ are the factors of the above equation
$2 x - 3 = 0$ , $x + 1 = 0$
$2 x = 3,$ $x = - 1$
$∴ x = \frac{3}{2}, - 1$
