Question

Solve the following equations:
(ax)ax(bx)xb(ax)+(xb) = a-b

Open in App
Solution

The equation can be written as
(ax)3/2+(xb)3/2(ax)1/2+(xb)1/2 = a-b
Form p3+q3p+q or p2+pq+q2
Whence we have
(a-x)-{a-x)1/2 (x- b)1/2 + (x-b) = a - b
or (ax)(xb) = 0 .
Hence x = a or x = b.
