Question

Solve the following equations using Matrix Inversion method.
2x3y+6=0 and 6x+y+8=0

Open in App
Solution

Solution:
Matrix Inversion Method:
2x3y+6=02x3y=6
6x+y+8=06x+y=8
The corresponding matrix equation is
[2361][xy]=[68]
i.e. AX=B
Where, A=[2361],X=[xy],B=[68]
Hence,premultiplying above matrix equation by A1 on both sides, we get
A1AX=A1B
or, IX=A1B
or, X=A1B
Now, A=[2361]|A|=2+18=20
Adjoint of A= adjA=[1362]
A1=1|A|(adjA)
or, =120[1362]
X=120[1362][68]
=120[3020]
=⎢ ⎢30202020⎥ ⎥
=321
So, x=32,y=1
