Question

Solve the following equations using trial and error method:
3x – 7 = 5

Open in App
Solution

3x - 7 = 5
Putting x = 0 in L.H.S we get,
3(0) - 7 = 0 - 7 = -7
-5 5 Therefore, x = 0 is not the solution.

Putting x = 1 in L.H.S we get,
3(1) - 7 = 3 - 7 = -4
-11 5 Therefore, x = 1 is not the solution.

Putting x = 2 in L.H.S we get,
3(2) - 7 = 6 - 7 = -1
-8 5 Therefore, x = 2 is not the solution.

Putting x = 3 in L.H.S we get,
3(3) - 7 = 9 - 7 = 2
-5 5 Therefore, x = 3 is not the solution.

Putting x = 4 in L.H.S we get,
3(4) - 7 = 12 - 7 = 5
5 = 5 Therefore, x = 4 is the solution.
