Madhulika thought of a number, doubled it and added 20 to it. On dividing the resulting number by 25, she gets 4. What is the number?

Let the number be x.
According to the question,
$\frac{2 x + 20}{25} = 4 \Rightarrow 2 x + 20 = 25 \times 4 \Rightarrow 2 x + 20 = 100 \Rightarrow 2 x = 100 - 20 \Rightarrow 2 x = 80 \Rightarrow x = \frac{80}{2} ∴ x = 40$
Hence, the required number is 40.
