Question

Solve the following pair of equations:
13x+11y=70,11x+13y=74

Open in App
Solution

13x+11y=70 ............(1)
11x+13y=74 ............(2)

Multiply by 13 in equation (1) and multiply by 11 in equation (2), we get
169x+143y=910 ............(3)
121x+143y=814 ............(4)

On subtracting equation (4) from (3), we get
x=2

On putting the value of x in equation (1), we get
13×2+11y=70
11y=44
y=4

Hence, this is the answer.
