Question

Solve the following pair of linear equations by the elimination method:

x+y=5

2x-3y=4

Open in App
Solution

Given :

x+y=5.....(1)2x-3y=4.....(2)

Multiply equation (1) by 3, we get,

3x+3y=15.....(3)

Now adding equation (2) and equation (3), we get,

2x-3y+3x+3y=4+155x=19x=195

Now, putting the value of x in equation (1), we get

195+y=5y=5-195y=25-195y=65

Hence, x=195 and y=65 are the solutions for the given equation.
