Question

Solve the following pairs of equations by reducing them to a pair of linear equations:
4x+3y=14 , 3x4y=23

Open in App
Solution

The given pair of equations are 4x+3y=14 and 3x4y=23

Put 1x=u we get 4u+3y=14...(1),3u4y=23...(2)

From (1) we get u=143y4

Substitute u in (2) we get

3(143y4)4y=23

429y16y=92

25y=50

y=2

Substitute y=2 in u=143y4 we get u=5

Hence 1x=u=5x=15

Solution: x=15,y=2
