Question

Solve the following quadratic equation by completing square method
x2+10x+21=0

Open in App
Solution

we have, x2+10x+21=0

x2+10x=21 ....... (i)

Third term =(12coefficient ofx)2

=(12×10)2

=25

Adding 25 to both sides of equation (i), we get

x2+10x+25=21+25

(x+5)2=4

(x+5)2=(2)2

Taking square roots on both sides
x+5=±2

x=5±2

x=5+2=3 or x=52=7

Hence 3 and 7 are the roots of the given quadratic equation
