Solve the following sets of simultaneous equations.
$3x-5y=16;x-3y=8$

Given

$x-3y=8$

$x=8+3y.......\left(1\right)$

$3x-5y=16$

substitute value of $x$ from (1) in the above equation, we get

$3(8+3y)-5y=16$

$24+9y-5y=16$

$9y-5y=16-24$

$4y=-8$

$y=\frac{-8}{4}$

$y=-2$

Putting value of $y$ in (1) ,we get

$x=8+3y$

$x=8+3\times (-2)$

$x=8-6$

$x=2$

Therefore, $x=2$ and $y=-2$
