Question

Solve the following simultaneous equations
2x3y=15;8x+5y=77

Open in App
Solution

2x3y=15 .....(1)

8x+5y=77 .....(2)

Let u=1x and v=1y then eqns(1) and (2) becomes

2u3v=15 .....(3)

8u+5v=77 .....(4)

8×Eqn(3)2×Eqn(4)

16u24v16u10v=120154

34v=34

v=3434=1

v=1

v=1y=1

y=1

Put v=1 in eqn(3) we get

2u3×1=15

2u=15+3=18

u=182=9

u=9

u=1x=9

x=19

Hence x=19 and y=1
