Solution

(i) x+y=4 ...(1) 2x-5y =1 ...(2)Multiplying eq (1) by 2, we get:2x+2y=8 ...(3) Subtracting (3) from (2), we get: 2x-5y=1 2x+2y=8- - - -7y=-7 y=1Substituting y=1 in equation (1), we get: x+1=4x=3 x=3 , y=1 is the solution of the given equations.
