Question

Solve the following simultaneous equations using Cramer's rule.
(iv) 3x + 2 y + 11 = 0 ; 7 x - 4y = 9

Open in App
Solution

The given equations are:

3x + 2 y + 11 = 0
⇒ 3x + 2 y = - 11 ----------(i)
and
7 x - 4y = 9 ----------(ii)

Here,
D = 327-4 = 3×-4 - 2×7 = -12 - 14 =-26
Now, we have:

Dx =-1129-4 = -11×-4 -2×9 =44 - 18 =26

Dy =3-1179 =3×9 - -11×7 = 27 +77 = 104

By Cramer's rule, we get:

x = DxD = 26-26 = -1andy = DyD = 104-26 = -4 x = -1 and y = -4 is the solution of the given simultaneous equations.
