Question

Solve the following simultaneous equations using Cramer's rule .
(v) x + 18 = 2 y ; y = 2x - 9

Open in App
Solution

The given equations are:

x + 18 = 2 y
⇒ x - 2 y = - 18 ----------(i)
and
y = 2x - 9
2x - y = 9 ----------(ii)

Here, D = 1-22-1 = 1×-1 - -2×2 = -1 +4 =3

Now, we have:
Dx =-18-29-1 = -18×-1 --2×9 = 18 +18 =36

Dy =1-1829 = 1×9 --18×2 =9 +36 =45

By Cramer's rule, we get:

x = DxD = 363 = 12andy = DyD = 453 = 15 x = 12 and y =15 is the solution of the given simultaneous equations.
