Question

Solve the following system of equations
6x+y=7xy+3,12(x+y)=13(xy) where x+y0andxy0

Open in App
Solution

6x+y=7xy+3 ......(i)
Put x + y = a, x - y = b
Now the given equation reduces to
6a=7b+3 ........(ii)
Another equation is 12(x+y)=13(xy) .......(iii)
12a=13b
or a = 3b2 ........(iv)
Put (iv) in (ii)
63b×2=7+3bb
4=7+3b
b=1 ......(v)
Put (v) in (iv)
a=32
From our four assumptions
a = x + y = 32
b=xy=1
Adding the two equations given above
2x=52x=54
y=54+1y=14
