Question

Solve the following systems of equations:
3x+y+2xy=2
9x+y4xy=1

Open in App
Solution

Let x+y=u,xy=v

Rewriting the equations :

Equation (1) : 3u+2v=2

Equation (2) : 9u4v=1

Multiply equation (1) by 3 and subtract the resultant equation from equation (2)

9u+6v=6

9u4v=1

10v=5

$\Rightarrow v=2$

Substituting 'v' in above equations, we get ;

u=3

x+y=3

xy=2

2x=5

x=52

And y=12
