Solve the following systems of equations.
$x + 2 y = 3, a x - 4 y = - 6, x + y = 1$

$x + 2 y = 3$

$x + y = 1$

Subtracting these two equations-

$y = 2$

$x = 1 - y = - 1$

Now, $a x - 4 y = - 6$

$⟹ - a - 8 = - 6$

$⟹ a = - 2$
