Solve the following:

The sum three consecutive numbers is 156. Find the number which is a multiple of 13 out of these numbers.

Answer 1

Let three consecutive numbers be x, (x+1) and (x+2).
According to the question,
x+(x+1)+(x+2)=156
$\Rightarrow 3x+3=156\Rightarrow 3x=156-3=153\therefore x=153\times \frac{1}{3}=51$
Thus, we get the numbers 51, 51+1 and 51+2, i.e. 51, 52 and 53. Out of these, only 52 is a multiple of 13.
