Question

Solve the given inequality graphically in two-dimensional plane: x + y

Open in App
Solution

The inequality is given as x+y<5.

First draw the graph of equation,

x+y=5(1)

Put x=0 in equation (1),

y=5

Similarly, put y=0 in equation (1),

x=5

Substitute 0 for x and y in the given inequality,

0+0<5 0<5

The above inequality is true because 0 is always less than 5, therefore the area will be shaded towards the origin.

Draw the graph from the obtained coordinates ( 0,5 ) and ( 5,0 ).

The graph of inequality in the two dimensional plane is drawn as,

Figure (1)

Figure (1) shows the shaded region which gives the solution of the inequality.

The points on the line are not the solution of the inequality because x+y<5.

Thus, the shaded region shows the solution of inequality x+y<5.
