The given quadratic equation x2+8x+6=0 is in the form ax2+bx+c=0 where a=1,b=8 and c=6.
We know that the quadratic formula is x=b±b24ac2a, therefore, substitute a=1,b=8 and c=6 in x=b±b24ac2a as follows:

x=b±b24ac2a=8±82(4×1×6)2×1=8±64242
=8±402=8±4×102=8±2102=2(4±10)2=4±10

Hence, x=4+10 or x=410.
