Solution

Given equations are,

$2 x + 3 y = 13 \dots \dots (i)$

$4 x - y = 5 \dots \dots (i i)$

Consider,

$4 x - y = 5$

$y = 4 x - 5$ (1 mark)

Substituting $y$ in $(i)$ we get,

$2 x + 3 y = 13$

$2 x + 12 x - 15 = 13$

$14 x = 28$

$\Rightarrow x = 2$

$∴ y = 8 - 5 = 3$ (1 mark)
