Question

Solve the system:

x+y=-46x+2y=4

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Multiplying equation 1 with '2'.

Given:

x+y=-4 ........(1)

6x+2y=4 ........(2)

Multiplying equation 1 with '2'we get,

2x+2y=-8 ........(3)

Step 2: Finding the value of x.

Now subtract equation (3) from (2)

6x+2y=4-2x+2y=-84x+0y=12

We get,

4x=12x=3

Step 3: Finding the value of y.

Put x=3 in x+y=-4 we get,

3+y=-4y=-4-3y=-7

Therefore, we get x=3 and y=-7.
