$x^{2} - 5 x + 4 = 0$

$\Rightarrow$ $x^{2} - x - 4 x + 4 = 0$

$\Rightarrow$ $x (x - 1) - 4 (x - 1) = 0$

$\Rightarrow$ $(x - 1) (x - 4) = 0$

$∴ x = 1, 4$
