$x + 2 y = 0$
$x - 2 y = 0$

$x + 2 y = 0$ ....... $(1)$
$x - 2 y = 0$ ....... $(2)$
Eqn $(1) +$ Eqn $(2)$
$x + 2 y + x - 2 y = 0$
$\Rightarrow 2 x = 0$ or $x = 0$
$\Rightarrow x + 2 y = 0 \Rightarrow 0 + 2 y = 0$ or $y = 0$
$∴ x = 0, y = 0$
